Aim and Motivation

Granular computing and three-way decisions are fields of research on human-inspired computation. Granular computing takes advantage of data abstraction and reasoning at multiple levels of granularity. Three-way decision explores thinking, problem solving, and information processing in threes, namely, sets of three parts or items. Granular computing and three-way decisions offer new theories, models, and tools for cognitive analytics.

The three paradigms have been investigated in business, management, medical sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.   In computer science, they have been applied in data mining, data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and many other areas. The aim of this special issue is to further the integration and interaction of the three fields.  We solicit high quality state-of-art research that addresses theoretic and applications aspects of three-way decisions, granular computing, and cognitive analytics.

This special issue will increase the communications of researchers in three-way decision-making and cognitive computing.  Papers in this special issue are expected to lead a new research direction of three-way cognitive computation.
